Youth and the Land

Mentored by older experienced farmers, the youth of Protectores de la Tierra are growing herbs, vegetables, fruits, berries and cut flowers for retail sale at the Holyoke Farmers' Market and Nuestras Raíces' recently completed community agricultural center. The youth from Nuestras Raíces and from other organizations also have access to the river and land for recreational and environmental stewardship programming. The youth are learning about and stewarding the river, the trees and wildlife along the bank, and a team of youth leaders is trained to conduct tours, workshops and activities for youth and adults throughout the city and for visitors.
