La Finca was born out of a participatory community planning process in which many of our community gardeners expressed a desire to grow food not just for themselves, but to grow for a market, and begin an agricultural business. We worked together to find a suitable piece of landin urban Holyoke, and the projct has grown into a beginning farmers project, a beautiful space for community celebration and many small business oportunities.
La Finca houses a Beginning Farmers Training Program called Land of Opportunities. We rent small plots of land (1/8 acre - full acre) to interested community members and provide them with small loans connection, training, shared resources, market assistance, and community support. With our shared resources and support the beginning farmers build the necesarry capital, knowledge and connections to soon graduate from our incubation site onto their own farm. For more information about the Beginning Farmers Training Program, contact Thomas Trepanier, Farm Site Manager, at firstname.lastname@example.org
La Finca is also avaiable as a community gathering space to celebrate the vibrant latino culture of Holyoke. Many community members come to our farm and say "It looks like Puerto Rico!" We hold several cultural celebrations throughout the year and provide refreshing solace from a bustling urban Hoyloke year round.
Finally, La Finca is also a site for growing small businesses. We currently hold numerous economic development opportunities including the Paso Fino (Fine Step) Horse Barn, the Petting Zoo, the Farm Store, Lechonera (Pig Roast) and Multiple Greenhouses. Our on-farm businesses work together to provide services to the community and make La Finca an attractive family destination in the city of Holyoke.
