Architects/Designers and Planners for Social Responsibility Announce 2008 Lewis Mumford Award

Architects/Designers and PLanners for Social Responsibility, a non-profit organization of design professionals committed to peace, environmental protection, ecological buildin, social justice and community development announced Nuestras Raices as its winner of the prize for the Environment.  The award was accepted by Nuestras Raices leaders Milagros Guzman, Nalany Garcia, Ada Pino, Alex Nieves and Daniel Ross in the award ceremony in Boston, MA on Saturday, May 17th.

Nuestras Raíces has been selected as a finalist in the Ashoka's Changemakers Young Men at Risk: Transforming the Power of a Generation competition!

20 new community leaders graduated from Leadership Development Training Course, led by Hilda Colon and sponsored by the Holyoke Food & Fitness Policy Council and the EPA. The participants also studied policy change with the Massachusetts Public Health Association.

HOLYOKE - Youth leaders from Nuestras Raices have been working in the
organization's gardens for years and for the past three years they have
been taking their skills to Williamsburg to teach kindergartners there
about gardening.
